Jacks Green at Orton Mere station

This photo was taken when Jacks Green had a Overhaul at Peter Botherhood's Peterborough factory which was then at Walton in Peterborough. Botherhood's had a rail connection to the ECML and a class 08 had brought the 0-6-0T back to the Nene Valley by way of Fletton junction and the GNR loop.

This Hunslet 0-6-0ST was built in 1953 and worked at the quarry at Nassington which is not far from Wansford.

Orton Mere station was built by the Nene Valley Railway (there was no station here) and at this time only had the one platform. The small temporary building that was used here at first can be seen in the background.

This part of the website has a mixture of some of the various engines that ran on the Nene Valley when it first started.

The Nene Valley Railway now (2014) runs from Peterborough to Wansford railway station and then on to Yarwell junction. Wansford Station is on part of the old A1 at Stibbingson and is about 2 miles from the village of Wansford itself. The line is about 7 1/2 miles long. It now has the Fletton Branch which is about another mile and a bit.

This website is Ukrailways1970tilltoday.me.uk  it is a webe site on railways, but it is not just on trains, but all things railways, with photos, which I have taken from the 1970s till now. I take photos of all things railways, steam diesel and electric trains, signal boxes,  any thing that is on the National Rail network, which was BR when I started taken photos or heritage railways like the Nene Valley railway on this page.

Today EWS, East Coast, Central trains and EWS are just some of the names on the trains. The name on the train does not mean, thats whos train it is these days. These names keep changing, but that means I have to keep taking photos. I also take photos of preserved railways with steam diesel and electric trains. There is lots more to add and I keep taking More!
