LNER Peppercorn Class A1 60163 Tornado
This LNER Peppercorn Class A1 number 60163 Tornado is a new build locomotive. It was built by the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust at Darlington and completed in 2008 at a cost of about three millon pounds which was paid for by the members of the trust.
All of the 49 Peppercorn locomotives were scrapped before any could be saved.
The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust members decided to make it the 50th A1. They then gave it the next number and gave it the name of the Tornado jet aircraft. It is painted in the colours it would have had if it had been built in 1949 with full British Railways name on the tender. It has now been painted (May 2011) in BR dark green with the Loin on the wheel British Railways logo on the tender, as this was its next colour an A1 would have been painted in.
It has been built as new build, with all the paper work now required to meet the modern safety and certification standards, that all new trains that run on the main line network require today.

This website is  it is on railways, but it is not just on trains, but all things railways, with photos, which I have taken from the 1970s till now. I take photos of all things railways, steam diesel and electric trains, signal boxes, wagons any thing that is on the National Rail network, which was BR when I started taken photos.

TodayVirgin East Coast, Hull Trains and East Midland Trains are just some of the names on the trains. These names keep changing, but that means I have to keep taking photos. I also take photos of preserved railways with steam diesel and electric trains. There is lots more to add and I keep taking More!
