Class 31 and two mark ones at Farcet

This train may of been a replacement for a failed DMU.

This part of the web site is about the railways which are just to the south of Peterborough. Today (2009) the new town ship of Hampton is being built on the site clay pits from which The London Brick Company made 1,000s of bricks.

Some of the land alongside the railway here is now part of the  Crown Lakes Country Park and there is a footbridge over the railway here.

All along this part of the ECML were brick works. The photo above shows one of the last ones still in use. There were fours tracks along here and there were sidings were bricks were put into open wagons. Even in the late 1970s a class 08 would take empty open wagons and return with wagons full of bricks. All these brick works have now closed and  have been removed.

The Knot Holes (pits) were filled with fly ash from power stations. This was was brought by train and then mixed with water and pumped into these Knot holes. After a time the ash settled and the water was reused. Earth was put on top of the fly ash. Many hundreds of houses are being being built on some of this land.

Another up train with a class 47 showing just how tall this chimneys were.

This side of the line is now Crown Lakes Country Park  , and I think the other side will be houses. There is a footbridge over the ECML here now. But we have the overheadwires.

This website is Ukrailways1970tilltoday.me.uk  it is on railways, but it is not just on trains, but all things railways, with photos, which I have taken from the 1970s till now. I take photos of all things railways, steam diesel and electric trains, signal boxes, wagons any thing that is on the National Rail network, which was BR when I started taken photos.

Today EWS, East Coast, Central trains and EWS are just some of the names on the trains. The name on the train does not mean, thats whos train it is these days. These names keep changing, but that means I have to keep taking photos. I also take photos of preserved railways with steam diesel and electric trains. There is lots more to add and I keep taking More!
