The class 55 or as its better known the Deltic was the main locomotive used for the fastest trains on the ECML until it was replaced by the HST.

Be for the now all to common anti vandal fencing was put alongside the car park at Peterborough station, you could get a very good photo from this car park of trains in platform two and one.

Note the Parcels trolleys still in use at this time.

Platform 2 at Peterborough was used for the main up trains to London. Up BR trains nearly always uses this platform as it the best platform for passengers with just a small walk from the booking office to the platform.

There was a 20 mile an hour speed restriction though platform 2 in steam days because platform 2 had a dogleg at the London end that could have been taken out after the Crescent Bridge was built. The Second World War put paid to that.

It was to be 1972/3s be for platform 2 was straighted out when the station was altered and the two though lines put in, in the middle of the station.

This photo was taken from the Cresent road Bridge. The class 33 in platform 3 was on a special train. Class 33s were not every day visitors to Peterborough. Note the mail being loaded.

Before the station was altered platform 2 saw all up trains including freight using this platform as the trip around the rear of the station involved stopping all trains and needed much planing between signal boxes.

All platforms at Peterborough after the station was altered, were signalled both ways. Up trains not stopping at Peterborough do not not now have to use platform 2 but can use the though lines about 111mph.

This website is Ukrailways1970tilltoday.me.uk  it is on railways, but it is not just on trains, but all things railways, with photos, which I have taken from the 1970s till now. I take photos of all things railways, steam diesel and electric trains, signal boxes, wagons any thing that is on the National Rail network, which was BR when I started taken photos.

Today EWS, East Coast, Central trains and EWS are just some of the names on the trains. The name on the train does not mean, thats whos train it is these days. These names keep changing, but that means I have to keep taking photos. I also take photos of preserved railways with steam diesel and electric trains. There is lots more to add and I keep taking More!
