This bay platform that was numbered one, had its track removed in late 2013 ,as part of a new platform layout at Peterborough station. Because of this Platform 2 will now in 2014 become platform 1.

WAGN class 317 339 in platform 1 on the 26th of March 2005.

The bay platform at Peterborough railway station which was then called Peterborough North, was little used in the 1970s and 80s for passenger trains. It was used mainly for parcels.

There were two other sidings befor 1968 to the right of platform one of which was a siding. The other was a parcel and goods platform used for mail and sometimes circus trains.

The siding and parcel platform were removed leaving just platform 1. The space was used to make the car park a little bit bigger. (Were car is in photo above.)

In the 1970s and 1980s platform 1 saw little use for passenger traffic. Post Office TPOs and other Mail coaches were often in the bay during the day .

First Capital Connect (FCC) and  West Anglia Great Northern (WAGN) be for them, used platform 1 the bay platform for  there  short EMUs to London Kings Cross. Using platform 1 saves passengers having to use the footbridge to get over to platform 3 and keeps the though lines platforms open.

The bay Platform is now too short for todays longer 12 car trains. Platform 3 has been the the main platform for EMUs. Platforms 2 or 4 are also often used in the rush hour and or off peak.

This platform had its track removed in late 2013 when the station was being altered and  so was never used by the new GREAT NORTHERN services which have took over from First Capital Connect.

This website is  it is on railways, but it is not just on trains, but all things railways, with photos, which I have taken from the 1970s till now. I take photos of all things railways, steam diesel and electric trains, signal boxes, wagons any thing that is on the National Rail network, which was BR when I started taken photos.

Today EWS, East Coast, Central trains and EWS are just some of the names on the trains. The name on the train does not mean, thats whos train it is these days. These names keep changing, but that means I have to keep taking photos. I also take photos of preserved railways with steam diesel and electric trains. There is lots more to add and I keep taking More!
