2001 Nene Valley Railways Transport Day

 2001

The start of January 2001 saw March Vintage & Veteran Cycle Club holding their famous Freewheeling competition. This is strange as March is in the middle of the very flat fens. There is not a hill any were. The March members hit on the I dear of using a railway bridge. The riders start on top of the bridge and then free wheel down! 52 members turned out on bright but bitterly cold day in 2001. Then they then all went afterwards for a hot lunch.

The club went a number of events in 2001. One of these was at the 2001 Nene Valley Railways Transport Day . Members also attended the 2001 NAVCC Rally. at Northleach.

NENE VALLEY RAILWAY TRANSPORT DAY 2001

One of the events the March VCC club attended in 2001 was The Nene Valley Railway's Transport Weekend were it put on a static display next to the line of engines awaiting restoration. As well as taking vintage cycles a display of cycle lamps and other cycle parts was set up.

There were traction engines and vintage cars as well as the cycles. When I got there most of the MVCC members were enjoying a trip on a steam train to Peterborough along the Nene Valley Railway.
