The London Midland and Scotish Railway (LMS) built this Coronation Class 4-6-2 at their Crewe locomotive works in 1938. It was used on the heavy express passenger trains between London And Glasgow. (today this line is known as the West Coast Main Line).

 

Duchess of Sutherland was withdrawn in 1964 by British Railways. It then ended up at a Butlins holiday camp in Scotland on satic display. The Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust acquired 46233 in 1996 and restored it back to a mainline steam locotive. In 2015 it has been busy on the main line. It had visited the Mid Norfolk Railway in June 2015 as well as this visit to Barrow Hill, in between it main line work.
