0-4-0 Claxo fireless steam locomotive at Carnforth.
This locomotive was in a very poor state in 2008. I hope it has not been left to rot.
I think this locomotive was used at Glaxo plant at Plumpton near Ulverston
West Coast Railways headquarters and main depot for the company is at Carnforth in the site of the steam MPD . Carnforth Steamtown was one of the main museum site in the UK till around 1997. The major features of the site is its ash plant and the Coaling tower.
These Open days were stopped in 1997 because of commercial activity and the amount of carriages and locomotives on the site.
The Ash Plant and the Coaling Tower were in a very poor state of repair when I went to the open day in 2008 and the signal box looked like its never been looked at since 1997. The Ash Plant and the Coaling Tower must be saved. Why are these not Grade One listed? They are in fact Grade II:listed. The steam shed looked just as bad.
This page has some of the things that have been saved, but then left.
......
These next two photos were taken of the inside the old part of Carnforth steam shed in 2008 during the the open Weekend at the open Weekend at Carnforth in 2008. from holes in the doors.
This class 37 was in the old part of Carnforth steam shed in 2008
This veiw of part of the old shed in 2008 taken during the open day, was taken from the new part of the shed which was open to the public, via a hole in a door. It shows the state this shed was in, with a net up to catch the bits falling off the roof.
This I think was a steam heat van used to heat carriages or a generator van.
The only thing on it says shunt with care, is that because of its state.
A 1st class mark one sleeping car which has seen better days
