Deltics or the class 55s were the ECML top link locomotives in the 1960s and 1970s untill they were replaced by the HSTs.
This Deltic is number D9009 and is named Alycidon. It is painted in the British Railways two tone green which the deltics were frist painted in. Like some of the LNER main line steam locomotives this Deltic is named after a racehorse winner. Alycidon was a race horse and was the winner of the 1949 Ascot Gold Cup. This Deltic is owned by the he Deltic Preservation Society Limited who are based at the Barrow hill round house shed were they have there own depot.

The Great Central Railway runs from Loughborough to Leicester North station close to the Leicester outer ring road. There are stations at Rothey and at Quorn & Woodhouse. The head quarters of the railway is at Loughborough were the engine shed is and the main shop ect. The railway has a large collection of steam and diesel engines
