Steam Gala 4th April 2010

A1 60163 Tornado at Loughborough Great Central station on the 4th of April 2010
Peppercorn Class A1 number 60163 Tornado is a new build locomotive. It was built by the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust at Darlington and was only completed in 2008. Its number is the next number that would have been used if any more A1s had been built. All the other Peppercorn Class A1s were cut up and none were saved.
This new Build steam locomotive had been run in at the Great Central Railway. 60163 needed to get so many miles of running in befor it could be passed to go out onto the mainlines. After it was passed OK. It was painted in the early British Railways light green with British Railways in full on the tender. 60163 was named in York station by Prince Charles. He named this fine new steam locomotive Tornado.
