D 335 on 30th March 2012 at Thuxton during the MNR Diesel Gala.

This locomotive is an English Electric Type 4 or as it is today better known as class 40. It was built by English Electric at Vulcan Foundry in Newton-le-Willows. It was built with the split-box type headcodes.  It was withdrawal by British Rail in 1985/6

The Class 40 Preservation Society saved the locomotive in 1988 and it went to the ELR.  this locomotive had the numbers D335 40135 and 97406 during its time with BR.

This Mid-Norfolk Railway Diesel gala was on Friday the 30th and 31st March and Sunday April the 1st 2012.

I went on the Friday to this Mid-Norfolk Railway Diesel Gala. This was the railways first Diesel Gala of 2012. Three locomotives had been booked in, to add to the Mid Norfolks own collection of mainline diesel locomotives. A Class 55 A class 40 (D335 on this Page) and a class 37. The class 55 or as it is better known as, a Deltic, was the star of the weekend. The Deltic and the class 40 which was painted in British Railways green with its old number of D355 had come by rail light engines from the East Lancashire Railway on the Thursday by way of Peterborough and Ely. The 37 did get to the MNR till Saturday so I did not see it. The railways own class 20 class 31 and class 37 and class 50 also were also in use.

The Mid-Norfolk Railway Preservation Trust

It was only around 1995 that The Mid-Norfolk Railway Preservation Trust started to restore this line between Dereham and Wymondham. It now has 17.5 miles of track (11.5 miles is in use) which when its is all in use, will be one of longer preserved railways in the UK. A lot of the other preserved railways had already had a twenty year start when they started. Trains run now between Dereham and Wymondham.
