This Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway 7F 2-8-0 53809 is one of two that have been preserved out of a small of a class of 11 locomotives. 53809 came from the Midland Railway at Butterly.

53809 was built in 1914 at Derby. This engine spent most of it life on the now closed Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway. It withdrawn in June 1964 and ended up at Barry scrapyard. It was saved in 1975, and went to Doncaster, be for going to the Midland Railway Centre in March 1980.

This steam locomotive was visiting from the Midland Railway Centre. It is a 7F 2-8-0 no.53809 in a very clean British Railways unlined black. It is waiting for its next train, at Wansford station.

The Nene Valley Railway
 
The Nene Valley Railway runs from Peterborough to Wansford railway station and then on to Yarwell junction. Wansford Station is on part of the old A1 at Stibbingson and is about 2 miles from the village of Wansford itself. The railway line is about 7 1/2 miles long. Trains run at weekends for most of the year.
 
The station at Wansford railway station is open from around 9am to 4.30 on most days. (check on there web site for times) The line runs trains from this country and also from abroad. As well as steam locomotives it also has main line and industrial diesels. It has wagons and coaches and a large collection of railway bits and bobs. At the Peterborough end of the NVR is the Rail World Museum which is next to the Nene Valley Railways Peterborough station.
