This locomotive started with the number D5386. Then under Tops it was renumbered as 27066. It then had two more numbers Class 27103 and Class 27212.

This locomotive is based at the Dean Forest Railway. There are about 8 class 27s perserved in the UK out of the 69 built by The Birmingham Railway and Carrige Company between1961 and 1962.

For the Edinburgh to Glasgow push-pull operations from 1971 till they were replaced class 27s were used in the top and tail mode, with 6 Mark 2 carriages fitted with air operated disc brakes. A Class 27/1 was at one end of the train and a Class 27/2 at the other.

Eight examples of class 27s have been preserved

The Nene Valley Railway now (2014) runs from Peterborough to Wansford railway station and then on to Yarwell junction. Wansford Station is on part of the old A1 at Stibbingson and is about 2 miles from the village of Wansford itself. The line is about 7 1/2 miles long. It now has the Fletton Branch which is about another mile and a bit.
