92 Squadron at the NVR Southern Steam Gala in 2016

4-6-2 Southern Battle of Britain '92 Squadron' in Wansford station on the 11th September in 2016 .

This event was billed as a 'Southern Steam Gala'. With the Southern Q class 0-6-0 The 4-6-2 Southern Battle of Britain '92 Squadron' was to have made its first public runs at this event after its full overhaul at the Nene Valley.' 92 Squadron' was not quite ready in time, but was parked in the bay platform.

There was just the last few part to fit, and another coat(s) of paint was needed even though it looked good as it was.

This photo is the start of the first overhaul of 92 Squadron, out in the open at Wansford in 1973/4(?) not to long after it came from Barry.

This locomotive had been at the NVR since it was saved from Barry. This locomotive was at the Nene Valley Railway for about 21 years. A lot of the work was done outside on its first overhaul from its ex-Barry state, be for going into the shed to finish the overall be for its first steaming in December 1997. It then ran at the Nene Valley until 2003.

92 Squadron a Battle of Britain class 4-6-2 had returned on 24th May 2010 back to Nene Valley Railway out of ticket and in need of a full overhaul from the North Norfolk Railway.

The Battle of Britain Locomotive Society who own the locomotive had asked the Nene Valley Railway, if it would like them back? The NVR said yes.

A full overhaul with all parts removed and restored has this time been done in a warm shed, not out in the open

The Nene Valley Railway runs from Peterborough to Wansford railway station and then on to Yarwell junction. Wansford Station is on part of the old A1 at Stibbingson and is about 2 miles from the village of Wansford itself. The railway line is about 7 1/2 miles long. Trains run at weekends for most of the year.

The station at Wansford railway station is open from around 9am to 4.30 on most days. (check on there web site for times) The line runs trains from this country and also from abroad. As well as steam locomotives it also has main line and industrial diesels. It has wagons and coaches and a large collection of railway bits and bobs. At the Peterborough end of the NVR is the Rail World Museum which is next to the Nene Valley Railways Peterborough station.
