71000 Duke of Glouchester
This BR Standard Class 8 4-6-2 Pacific steam locomotive was designed by Robert Riddles for British Railways. Only this prototype locomotive was constructed, Duke of Gloucester.
The locomotive in BR days had poor steaming and heavy fuel consumption. The locomotive was saved from being scrapped at the Woodham Brothers scrapyard in Barry, in South Wales.
The bad steaming of 71000 Duke of Glouchester has now been sorted, and this locomotive can be seen on the mainline steaming how it sould have done when built.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) is today a good test for 71000 Duke of Glouchester with its heavy and full passenger trains up its step gradients.
NYMR
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) is one of the top Heritage Railways in the UK. The railway runs though some of Yorkshire's finest moor land.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway runs from Grosmont to Pickering. There are stations at Goathland and Levisham. There is also a halt at Newton Dale.
