Signal boxes at Doncaster station
Doncaster North signal box
Note the colour light signal with a shunt signal with a spotlight and the curtains to keep the sun out in the box.
Doncaster North and South signal boxes were part of a new Power signalling being planned for Doncaster by the LNER befor the 2nd world War. Some work had started but it was not until 1949, then under British railways, befor both these boxes were in use.
Both Doncaster North and South signal boxes and the old colourlight signals went when the Doncaster power box was built and the overhead wires came to Doncaster.
Even the New Doncaster Power box that took over from these signal boxes, may go when the York signal control centre being built in 2013, opens and takes control of all the south end of ECML.
