Ketton signal box BR (late 1970s)

This signal box at Ketton was opened in 1900. There was a station at Ketton named Ketton and Collyweston. The station here closed in 1966. Note the WC on the embankment side with steps up to it.

Ketton signal box in 2010. Note the flowers in plant pots on the ledge. That ledge and hand rail was not there in BR days. The colour has also been changed. The mile post is now yellow is was white.

This box is still in use in 2014. the box like all the other boxes on this line will close in 2017

Cravans DMU at Ketton

Cravens DMU near Ketton in BR days heading for Stamford.


Ketton is on the line from Syston Junction to Peterborough. Most passenger trains are class 170 or 158 units from Birmingham via Leicester to Peterborough March Ely and Cambridge and to Stanstead airport. Container trains and stone hoppers and Ballast are the main freight trains.

This Lower quadrant signal at Ketton, must be  one of only a few still in use, in easten England on a main line in 2014.

It is on the wrong side (righthand) to give a better view. It is used for trains heading to Oakham
