Direct Rail Services or DRS is a UK freight operating company which was in 1995 created by British Nuclear Fuels Limited with 5 class 20s. As it got more locomotives and work, it ownership was transferred to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority in April 2005.
The class 57 is a rebuild of the Class 47 with reconditioned General Motors diesel engines and a full rewire.
This locomotive class 57012 started out as a Brush Type 4 with the number D1854 in 1964/5. In March 1974 it was renumbered as class 47 with the number 47204. It changed to 47388 in June 1994 and back to 47204 in 1995.
The class 47 was then rebuilt into a class 57 with the number 57012 in March 2000 with Freightliner, be for it then moved to Direct Rail Services. This is one of nine class 57s that Direct Rail Services run. All were painted in this Compass blue livery.
Unlike some locomotives, it has six sets of numbers on it, so its easy to tell which one it this is.
