60008 Dwight D Eisenhower is an LNER Class A4 4-6-2 steam locomotive named after the United States General of the Army. Dwight D Eisenhower was also the President of the United States.
60008 was built for the London & North Eastern Railway in 1937, this locomotive was originally numbered 4496 and named Golden Shuttle. It was renamed Dwight D. Eisenhower after World War II and renumbered 8 in 1946 under Edward Thompson's LNER 1946 renumbering scheme.
In 1948 British Railways renumbered the locomotive 60008 on the 29 October 1948
When in 1963 it was withdrawn it was moved to the National Railroad museum in Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA.
She had been brought back to the UK (together with 'Dominion of Canada') so that all of the six remaining A4 pacifics can be seen together on the anniversary of Mallard's record breaking run in July 1938. While in the she was given a cosmetic restoration which looked very smart.
60008 returned to National Railroad museum in Green Bay in 2014.

In 2011 the National Railway Museum in York UK announced that it would be bringing back 60010 along with A4 Dwight D Eisenhower to the UK to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the record-breaking run of Mallard. This event at NRM is the first time all six A4s that were saved had come together since preservation.
While in the UK 4489 was given a cosmetic restoration which returned the locomotive to its original Coronation livery - LNER Garter Blue with her original number 4489. This was complete with side valances and a single chimney. Stainless chrome trim and chrome lettering and numbering. It was refitted with a Canadian-style chime whistle, and its commemorative bell.
