Four LMS main line steam locomotives at the Crewe Works Open Day 11th September 2005
 
These four LMS Crewe Work built steam locomotives, were lined up together. Duchess of Sutherland was on the left then Duchess of Hamleton and then LMS Princess Royal Class no.6203 Princess Margaret Rose . LMS Princess Royal Class 4-6-2 no.6201 Princess Elizabeth is on the right.

4-6-2 46229 Duchess of Hamleton was built by the London Midland and Scotish Railway (LMS) at these same Crewe works in 1938.  it was one of the same class of 38 pacific steam locomotives as Duchess of Sutherland. They were an enlarged version of the LMS Princess Royal Class
 
Duchess of Hamleton was originally built as streamlined, though this was later removed. Duchess of Hamilton is now on display is on static display at NRM at York after re-streamlining at Tyseley. This re-streamlining was done after this Open Day.The Steam Railway Apeal Headboard on the locomotive was to help pay for its re-streamlining.

4-6-2 46233 Duchess of Sutherland was built by the London Midland and Scotish Railway (LMS) at its Crewe works in 1938 it was one of the same class as Duchess of Hamleton of 38 Coronation Class express passenger pacific steam locomotives that was designed by William Stanier.
 
In 1964 Duchess of Sutherland was withdrawn by BR and went to Butlins holiday camp at Ayr as a static display. Then in 1971 it moved to Bressingham Gardens Steam Museum till1996.
 
In 1996 the locomotive was acquired by the Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust. The locomotive is now used on the mainline.

LMS Princess Royal Class 4-6-2 46203  Princess Margaret Rose was also built at the Crewe works for the LMS. After it was withdrawn by British Railways it was bought by Billy Butlin of Butlins for his Holiday camp at Pwllheli in Gwynedd in Wales.  46203 was at Pwllheli from May 1963 till1975 when it went to the Midland Railway Centre at Butterley in Derbyshire in England.
 
Princess Margaret Rose is owned by The Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust and is on static display at Butterley.

4-6-2 no.6201 Princess Elizabeth is a LMS Princess Royal Class that was built in 1933 at Crewe Works. 46201 was withdrawn by British Railways in 1962. The Princess Elizabeth Locomotive Society bought the locomotive from British Railways.
