Early days at the Great Central Railway.
In Its early days the Great Central Railway was known as the Main Line Steam Trust.
Black 5 number 5231 at Quorn and Woodhouse station
Great Central 4-4-0 and a short demo freight at Quorn and Woodhouse.
Great Central Railway Class 11F No. 506 Butler-Henderson The only Surviving Great Central steam locomotive is preserved as part of the UK National Collection It was at the Great Central on loan.
Great Northern No1 was on loan from the UK National Collection at York NRM was in steam and ran short trains in 1982.
Great Northern No1 on shed at Loughborough
This locomotive may never steam again. The NRM thinks locomotives like this would need too many new parts, and you would end up with a new locomotive in time, and need to be on display only. Perhaps we can have a new build built ?
The Great Central Railway runs from Loughborough to Leicester North station close to the Leicester outer ring road. There are stations at Rothey and at Quorn & Woodhouse. The head quarters of the railway is at Loughborough were the engine shed is and the main shop ect. The railway has a large collection of steam and diesel engines
