GB Railfreight class 73961 in the yard at Quorn and Woodhouse station.
This class 73 at been on high speed testing at the Great Central. It had been upgraded at The Brush works in Loughborough.
The British Rail Class 73 was a British electro-diesel locomotive that could use the Southern Region's 650/750 V DC third-rail or its own diesel engine so it could operate on non-electrified routes. These diesel engines fitted to the class 73s were only meant for short runs into goods yards and across London were there was no third rail.
This Class 73 was re-engined with MTU 1,600 hp V8 engines and is now a Class 73/9. Most of the mechanical and electrical components were also removed and new fitted. New lights and jumper cables were also fitted at Brush Traction Wabtec The diesel was only meant for short runs.
As can be seen new paint in GBRf colours has been added. It was put on a lowloader about a hour after I took this photo and retured to Brush.
