LARGE LINCOLN LIST

The High Street level crossing in Lincoln in BR days

class 08 comes over the High Street level Crossing

A class 08 comes over the High Street level Crossing with a train of 16 ton steel mineral wagons in 1977.

The only things to have changed in this view be for the major resignalling is that there were crossing gates, instead of the barriers that are here now. Note the road type traffic lights to help stop the traffic on the gate post. I am standing on the old footbridge to take this photo. . This has now been removed. After many years of trying to get it put back, a new footbridge is at last being built here.

The foot bridge at this end of the station has now also gone. For a number of years  there was no footbridge over the High street but a new one was built and this time with lifts.

Class 31102 light engine

Class 31102 light engine over the High Street crossing in 1977.

This class 31 or Brush Type 2 A1A-A1A class 31/1 diesel-electric locomotive was based at March MPD.

Lincoln St Marks Station to Pelham Street Junction in BR days

Class 47 701 comes from St Marks Station with a train of tank wagons.

Class 47 170 comes from St Marks Station with a train of tank wagons in 1977.

This part of Lincolns railways is now no more.

Note the flat barrier wagon between the engine and the tanks. This bit of line was closed when the St Marks station closed. These trains now have to come though Lincoln Central station, now just called Lincoln.

This Class 47 170 was built by Brush and it entered into traffic in 1964 as D1765. It later was renumbered and became 47170 in 1974. Then 47582 in 1981 and then  47733 in 1993. It was named County of Norfolk in 1979 till 995. In 1995 it was named Eastern Star. It was cut up in 2008

Class O3034 and its match wagon

Class O3034 and its match wagon a converted three container wagon to help with braking and track circuit problems, which the 03 with its short wheelbase was prone too, be for most of the class 03s were given a flat wagon. The locating brackets for the three cement containers are still on the match wagon. The number of the wagon is I think D530202. The 03 has a brake van which it will shunt back into the siding and collect another brake van. This Slide was taken in the summer of 1977

This Class 03 number 03034 was withdrawn in 1983 and was not saved I think.

Lincoln is the county town of Lincolnshire and was and still is the hub of the railways in this part of Lincolnshire.
