DMUs at Lincoln station in BR days

This page has some first generations DMUs at Lincoln Central station in the 1970s.

DMU comes into Lincoln station platform 5.

DMU comes slowly into Lincoln Central station platform 5.

The footbridge at the west end of the station in this photo has now been removed. This platform has also been renumbered.

Two car Cravens DMU to Cambridge at Lincoln station

Two car Cravens DMU to Cambridge at Lincoln

This service was very slow. It went via Spalding and March. On some of services there was some very long stops at each station. At March on one train , it was about 30mins long in the now disused platforms at March for closed Spalding to March line. The East Midland service today only runs to Peterborough were you have to change to a Cross Country Birmingham to Cambridge train.

DMU to sheffield coming from the DMU depot into the station

I am not sure if this DMU to Sheffield was coming from the DMU depot into the station or is just changing platforms from one side of the station to the other. When the signals and track were upgraded trains can go back to were they came from without changing platforms.

This photo also shows the flyover built to replace the the gates here. The fine signal is gone.

DMUs at the Lincoln High steet crossing
DMU is coming into Lincoln Central station past the car park

A DMU is coming into Lincoln Central station past the car park.East Holmes signal box is in the background with its own set of crossing gates which are now lifting barries. The foot bridge were I was standing to take this photo has now been removed.

The footbridgeat the High Street crossing now has a new footbridge with lifts as well , but does not have open sides, so as I can take photos from it,like the old one. It has glass but it needs to be clean.

DMU is just past the High Street signal box in BR days

The signal man in the High Street signal box  was is in top form the DMU has only just cleared the crossing and he already has the gates opening. Like the closed St Marks Central station being on the High Street, were the closing the gates can (will) cause traffic chaos. This picture was taken from the foot bridge (Now removed) which helped pople in a hurry. Many though seem prepared to wait next to the gates. The signal box has had a extra bit added next to the High Street to give the signal man a better view.
