Rood Ashton Hall leaves Lincoln Central

Rood Ashton Hall leaves Lincoln Central on the return leg of The Lincoln Imp across the main High Street just out out side the station, it has stopped all the traffic both cars and also those on foot. Lincoln Central station is right next to The High Street and its level crossing is famous for stopping traffic.

The numbers waiting at the crossing had been added too by those of us taking photos. On busy days it is often three deep here with shoppers waiting to cross. The GN&GEJR avoiding line was closed around Lincoln sometime in the 1980s and all trains including freight now have to use this level crossing.

There is a new footbridge being built in 2015/6 which will help. This will at long last replace a footbridge which was pulled down and not replaced by BR.

There used to be two stations in Lincoln, The Great Northern's Lincoln Central and the Midland railways Lincoln St Marks. Unlike some towns and villages, these stations were right in the middle of the town. Both stations were lest than a mile apart, and both stations had level crossings near to the end of the platforms on the main High street. Today Lincoln Central is the only station at Lincoln, this still has a level crossing on the main High street.
