Class 37219 at the Mid-Norfolk's Diesel gala on Saturday 19th March 2011.

It was a very nice warm day for March for this, Mid-Norfolk Railway Diesel Gala on the Saturday when I went. This class 37 is running round its train at Dereham station and is going over the crossing near the station. There was some very smart work in making sure these gates were only closed for as short a time as needed.

This class 37 is in Mainline colours and was from the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway. The class 37 has the name Shirley Ann Smith

From about 1994 the freight sector was to being privatised.Mainline was the new business name for Trainload Freight South East. Trainload Freight North East was to became Loadhaul and Trainload Freight West became Transrail. EWS or English and Welsh and Socttish Railway took over all three of these trainload sectors. EWS has itself now been took over by Deutsche Bahn and is now called DB Schenker but most of its locomotives still had EWS on them at this time in 2011, and even in 2016 a lot still did.

The Mid-Norfolk Railway Preservation Trust

It was only around 1995 that The Mid-Norfolk Railway Preservation Trust started to restore this line between Dereham and Wymondham. It now has 17.5 miles of track (11.5 miles is in use) which when its is all in use, will be one of longer preserved railways in the UK. A lot of the other preserved railways had already had a twenty year start when they started.

Trains run now between Dereham and Wymondham.
