The LNER B1 class was designed by Edward Thompson and was introduced from 1942. number 8301 was the first engine and it was named Springbok with 18 more being named after antilopes and 18 more were named after LNER directers.

Only 10 locomotives of this class were built during the war, but orders were then placed with the Vulcan Foundry and the North British Locomotive Company to get things moving. The rest were built at Darington. 274 B1s were built between 1942 and 1947 in LNER days and 136 B1s were built between 1948 and 1953 under BR.

This LNER B1 class locomotive is named Mayflower. This locomotive has now left the Nene Valley.

It is in September 2014 now based at the North Norfolk Railway, with a new owner.

The Nene Valley Railway now (2014) runs from Peterborough to Wansford railway station and then on to Yarwell junction. Wansford Station is on part of the old A1 at Stibbingson and is about 2 miles from the village of Wansford itself. The line is about 7 1/2 miles long. It now has the Fletton Branch which is about another mile and a bit.

This website is Ukrailways1970tilltoday.me.uk  it is a webe site on railways, but it is not just on trains, but all things railways, with photos, which I have taken from the 1970s till now. I take photos of all things railways, steam diesel and electric trains,  and signal boxes any thing that is on the National Rail network, which was BR when I started taken photos ot heritage railways.

Today EWS, East Coast, Central trains and EWS are just some of the names on the trains. The name on the train does not mean, thats whos train it is these days. These names keep changing, but that means I have to keep taking photos. I also take photos of preserved railways with steam diesel and electric trains. There is lots more to add and I keep taking More!
