Midland Main Line plus Ketteing to Manton Juction

Midland Main Line train at Nottingham station

A Midland Main Line class 222 at Nottingham station.

Nottingham station is one of the larger stations on the old Midland mainline from London to Sheffield. It was one of two large main line stations in Nottingham, the other was the now closed Victoria station run by The Great Central Railway. Victoria station is now closed and the site is a shopping center.

The Midland station runs west to east, not north to south. Derby is to the west and Newark and Grantham to the east.

In the late 1970s trains from London Derby and Sheffield came into the station from the west and another engine was put on the other end and it then went back westward be for heading north or south or carried on west to Derby.

In BR days in the late 1970s DMUs were used on Lincoln trains from Nottingham via Newark. DMUs were used on Grantham Sleaford Boston and Skegness trains with class 20s and mark ones on the holiday trains at weekends in the summer.

HSTs took over the London trains from the class 45s and 47s making for a easier turn round.

East Midlands Trains has now taken over from Midland Mainline. It has also taken over some of Central Trains services, when what Central trains ran was changed.

This website is Ukrailways1970tilltoday.me.uk it is a webe site on railways, but it is not just on trains, but all things railways, with photos, which I have taken from the 1970s till now. I take photos of all things railways, steam diesel and electric trains, wagons like this page, any thing that is on the National Rail network, which was BR when I started taken photos.

Today Virgin East Coast, EMTand DRS are just some of the names on the trains. These names keep changing, but that means I have to keep taking photos. I also take photos of preserved railways with steam diesel and electric trains. There is lots more to add and I keep taking More!
