Hornby HST 43087 next to Derby station On Friday 28th July 2006
On Friday 28th July 2006 on made a visit to Derby station. It was a very hot day. The station's overall roof was being repaired. In 2006 Midland Mainline, Virgin Trains Cross Country and Cental trains used Derby station.
Derby station is a major hub on the network. It was the headquarters of The Midland Railway. Midland Mainline was runing trains to London and North to Sheffield in 2006. Central Trains was runing its trains to Nottingham and the east as well as to Birmingham and Cardiff. It also ran trains to Matlock. Virgin Trains Cross Country ran the trains from Edinburgh and Newcastle. Trains run to the south to Bristol and Penzance.
Cross Country has now taken over part of the old Central Trains franchice and also Virgin Cross Country. East Midland Trains has now taken over from Midland Mainline.
