THE SCOTSMANS SALUTE
A3 4-6-2 60103 Flying Scotsman in platform 5 at Peterborough station on Friday the 11th of January 2019.
This train was the 'THE SCOTSMANS SALUTE' and was a UK Railtours railtour, celebrating the life of Sir William McAlpine (1936 to 2018). This train was from London Kings Cross to York. It had stopped at Peterborough for a crewe change.
The Hon Sir William McAlpine, sixth baronet rescued this locomotive, Flying Scotsman from America, died at the age of 82 in 2018.
Platform 5 is used by down trains by LNER and East Midland trains and Cross Country trains to Norwich Liverpool Cambridge and Birmingham and both up and down plus freight both ways. The new Platforms 6 and 7 has taken some of the traffic now.
