Freight at the Nene Valley Railway Steam Gala in September 2012
0-6-0ST no.22 waits to leave NVRs Peterborough station with its freight
Freight at the Nene Valley 23/9/2012
A freight train was run during the Nene Valley Railways Steam Gala on the 22nd and 23rd of September. The video below was taken on the Sunday morning at the Nene Valleys Peterborough station.
The Hunslet Austerity 0-6-0ST was in United Steel Company no.22 colours was built 1956 it is on loan from the Appleby Frodingham Railway. It came from Wansford with two goods brake vans to the NVRs Peterborough station to pick up the wagons waiting in the bay platform during the Sunday of the NVR Steam Gala. The station was empty as every one was on the passenger trains with Tornado or Bittern.
When the 0-6-0ST got to Peterborogh (NVR) station, No.22 had to run round the two brake vans take water be for it then pick one brake van up and put it on the wagons in the bay. It then put the wagons onto to the other brake van. This all takes lots time which is why this type of freight train is now gone into history. Nice to see the NVR recreating this type of train with its wagons. Who ever ( team?) has done them up, has made a very good job of restoring them .
