S160 6046![]() S160 6046 at the Peterborough Nene Valley railway station about to leave for Wansford on Sunday the 14th of September 2014. This 2-8-0 steam locomotive S 160 6046 was built during the 2nd World in the USA by the Baldwin Locomotive Company in Philadelphia for the United States Army Corps. This was one of about 2120 that were built . This locomotive went to France from the USA and did not come first to the UK. 6046 was one of locomotives built to replace the many locomotives lost during the war and needed after D Day to get the railways working again. They were not built to last, but be quick and easy to make. After its time in France with SNCF, it ended up in Hungary from were it was saved and brought to the UK. The locomotive is from the Churnet Valley Railway. S160 6046 at the Peterborough Nene Valley railway station running round its train on Sunday the 14th of September 2014 .
Tornado did not run on this Sunday. The new build LNER A1 60163 Tornado was at the Nene Valley for this event, and was going run on this Sunday. It had run on the Saturday. It was stopped at the start of day, on the Sunday, and did not run all day. ![]()
This is page 2 of 4 pages of photos taken at the Nene Valley during the Steam Gala in September 2014 The Nene Valley Railway now (2014) runs from Peterborough to Wansford railway station and then on to Yarwell junction. Wansford Station is on part of the old A1 at Stibbingson and is about 2 miles from the village of Wansford itself. The line is about 7 1/2 miles long. It now has the Fletton Branch which is about another mile and a bit.
