This 2-8-0 steam locomotive S 160 6046 was built during the 2nd World in the USA by the Baldwin Locomotive Company in Philadelphia for the United States Army Corps. This was one of about 2120 that were built . This locomotive went to France from the USA and did not come first to the UK.
6046 was one of locomotives built to replace the many locomotives lost during the war and needed after D Day to get the railways working again. They were not built to last, but be quick and easy to make. After its time in France with SNCF, it ended up in Hungary from were it was saved and brought to the UK. The locomotive was from the Churnet Valley Railway.
