Q6 63395 at Grosmont
63395 at Grosmont with a train to Pickering on the NYMR on the 27th September 2008
The Q6 0-8-0 was one of the very few pre-grouping steam locomotives to survive all most to the end of steam on British Railways.
This locomotive Q6 no.63395 was purchased by North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group who also own J27 no. 65894.
The Q6's were a freight engine used to pull trains up the step gradients in the North East of England, with heavy coal coke or ore trains. The 9F taking over some of Q6's trains towards the very end of steam.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) is today with its heavy and full passenger trains up its step gradients, is ideal for a Q6 to show what it can do.
