A4 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley
A4 number (BR number) 60007 is named after Sir Nigel Gresley who was the Chief Mechanical Engineer of the LNER and the designer of the A4s.
This locomotive was the 100th Gresley Pacific to be built by the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) so they honored him by naming the locomotive after him.
The A4 is in British Railways blue with its British Railways number. It still runs on the Main line but it's home base is now (2010) and for the last few years it has been based on The North Yorkshire Moors Railway
The A4 Preservation Society saved this A4 in 1966 and it still owns it.
The A4 Preservation Society changed its name to The A4 Locomotive Society Ltd and now to The Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Preservation Trust Ltd. But wha does a name matter? They saved the engine and that's all that matters, well done.
