Holding a steam Gala in January is always going to be cold. 2011 was not warm, but for January the weather was good. There was a fair mixture of locomotives, and was a good day out.
Great Western 2-8-0 no.3850 in British Railways black out of Rothley station with the TPOs
This locomotive is GWR 2884 Class 3850 which was built at Swindon in 1942. Like many of the now saved GWR engines it ended up at Barry scrapyard were it was for about 20 years 3850 was from West Somerset Railwayand was painted in British Railways black with the early British Railways crest.
