J15 In British Railway black at the Whitemoor open day

This LNER J15 steam locomotive in British Railway black was at the Whitemoor open day in June 2004 at the then very new Network Rail Distribution Centre which is now on the site of part of The old Whitemoor Yard

This J15 which had come from the North Norfolk Railway just for this event. This locomitive was in steam and had also been renumbered for just this day. The engine who's real number is 65462 was renumbered to 65420 for the day as one of the J15s used to be at Whitemoor MPD, which was a nice touch.

The Water Tower at Whitemoor

The Water Tower at Whitemoor on the 2004 open day Sunday

The Water Tower at Whitemoor on the 2004 open day Sunday. The water tower reminds you of the past years of this yard when steam engines pulled long freight trains across the fens.

This brick railway water tower has been restored and now looked great. This was not just to look great, but the water will be used to wash ballast and keep down the dust.

At this the far end of the new yard diggers and earth moving vehicles were about. There was still much to do and this is only just the first part of the yard. Getting it on line was number one. A stone crushing plant Sleeper works and a depot for the engines were some of the things planed for the site

The control tower for the yard was still being built

The control tower for the yard, was still being built and was not yet in use at the time of the 2004 openday.
