D8007 and D 8137
Two class 20s with D8007 and Class 20 as D 8137 at Orton Mere station on the Nene Valley railway in October 2007
These Type 1 locomotives were ordered under the British Railways Modernisation Plan. They were classified as Class 20 later. The initial order was for only 20 engines in 1956, this was added to and 228 locomotives were built in the end.
They often ran in pairs, more than on their own, with the cabs on the outer ends of the pair. This gave the driver a better view.
They were used on freight all week. On summer weekends they were used on seaside trips. Nottingham to Skegness trains used pairs of 20s in the 1970s.
The pair of class 20s are coming into Orton Mere station from Wansford.
