The NVR's opening train, with the French Nord loco, 3.628 and SJ 1178 at Wansford station.

On 1st June 1977 The Nene Valley ran the offical 'Opening Day Train' with this French Nord loco, 3.628 and SJ 1178 and it ran from Wansford station to Orton Mere and return. This train cut the tape to mark the opening of the railway. this was still being put up when I took this photo.

This Nord steam locomotive  was in a poor state on shed at Wansford befor it left the NVR in October 2008

The Nene Valley Railway now (2020) runs from Peterborough to Wansford railway station and then on to Yarwell junction. Wansford Station is on part of the old A1 at Stibbingson and is about 2 miles from the village of Wansford itself. The line is about 7 1/2 miles long. It now has the Fletton Branch which is about another mile and a bit.
