Stamford BR
In the 1970s there was a train just from Peterborough to Stamford only with a DMU.
Note the signal box in the background behind the signal which was moved near to station after it was closed. The van in the siding will be took back to Peterborough on the return trip.

In the 1970s there was trains just from Peterborough to Stamford only with a DMU. This DMU had picked up a van out of the siding which it then took back to Peterborough on its next trip. This cannot be done today as the siding has gone and there are no covered van for express parcels. I am not even sure if a class 170 could connect to a covered van.
This siding is now part of the station car park and the signal box which was about 400 yards down the line towards Ketton now stands at this end of the platform. The signal box is not in railway ownership but was owned by the railway book shop that use to rent part of Stamford station. The book shop has now moved into Stamford.

A class 31 on a Birmingham train comes into Stamford from Peterborough.
Like most stations Stamford had a coal yad for the local coal merchants.
This coal yard is now has houses on it.
