East Midlands Trains Class 222 015 in Kettering station in June 2010 to Corby

East Midlands Trains Class 222 015 in Kettering station in June 2010

The  Class 222 015 is on a down service to the then  new reopened Corby station. This service now runs every hour during most of the day.

This was a New Service in 2010 from Corby to London

East Midlands Trains Class 222 013 on the up service to London.

For the first few weeks after he new Corby station opened till 27th of April 2009 this service though Kettering from Corby saw just one single return train each day, but after 27th April 2009, the full hourly train  service began.

Its was nice to see  Corby station reopen and the class 222 are far better than the old Heritage Diesel DMUs. The old Corby station was closed in 1966.

Corby's old station was reopened for a few years, between 1987 and 1990, with a DMU running only between Kettering and Corby stations.

After the service to Corby stopped it was back to freight though these two platforms at Kettering station. There may have been some passenger trains using these two platforms, as train information screens were put up on these platforms.

The railway line from Kettering to Corby and onto Manton junction was freight only, with no booked passenger trains. Only when there were diversions because of track work did this line see passenger trains.

Steam trains have often used this line as there have been little or no trains using it. The late summer Bank Holiday Monday Harringworth Shuttles was becoming a yearly event from Melton Mowbay.

Other East Midlands Trains services still stop at Kettering at the other two platform on the fast lines, but a lot rush though with out stopping.

One of the two tracks on the Slow lines north of Bedford on this part of The Midland Main Line were removed leaving just one track with two way running. Even if this freight is not going to Corby and Mainton Junction which is single track, it has to go along the single track slow line which starts just out side the station, for some way be for crossing over on to the down fast.

Much work has now been done in the last few years and the 2nd slow line has been put back to Corby and new overhead wires put up. Corby's even got a new station in 2010
