City of Peterborough had come to Peter Brotherhoods, for this major overhaul in 1977. It was undertaken as an apprenticeship project and it took three years.
The photo above was I think on the 6th July 1980. It was repainted not in the British Railways Black as it is painted today, but in BR Brunswick Green livery. Swindon works had painted some of the class 5's that it had overhauled there so the Nene Valley Railway decided to have 73050 painted the same colours. The apprentice's made a top class job of the class 5.
The class 5 was overhauled at the Peter Brotherhoods works at Walton in Peterborough. This like a lot of firms had a rail connection. Peter Brotherhoods have now moved from this site. There is now shops here.
The ECML is in the foreground. There was open ground were I took this photo from. This site is now built on. The class 5 was in light steam and was taken by an 08 with a brake van to the Nene Valley. Brotherhoods had made a very good job of the overhaul.
Jacks Green was overhauled by the apprentices of Peter Brotherhood Ltd from 1976 to 1977.
Jacks Green is in the exchange sidding next to the Brotherhoods works. At this time the was very little steam on the main line un like today (2014) and even being towed was quite a event. The locomotive was taken to Orton Mere by the class 08
Peter Brotherhoods moved from this site and a shopping centre which had a Currys and a Morrisons super market was built in its place.
The ECML is in the foreground. There was open ground were I took this photo from, which is now built on. The 0-6-0ST was in very light steam and was taken by an 08 with a brake van to the Nene Valley. Brotherhoods had made a very good job of the overhaul.
A Nene Valley Railway Small Loco Group was set up in 2012 to look after and give the much needed attention to the small locomotives at the NVR. Jacks Green has not been used for many years and was looking in need of a repaint. It is hoped to restore the outside hopefuly to look how it looked in the photos above back in steam.
This locomotive has now been repainted and looks a 100% better Well done to all who helped on this job.
