DCR class 56 311 and A4 Mallard and class 55019 at Grantham station on the 4th of September 2013

This steam movement with A4 Mallard that was not in steam, had come from the York NRM on the Wednesday for the "story of Speed" event to be held on the Saturday and Sunday the 7th and 8th of September in 2013.

This event part of the 75th anniversary of Mallards 126mph world steam record down Stoke Bank which is just south of Grantham on the ECML on the 3rd of July 1938. Also it is 50 years ago on this very weekend that Grantham steam MPD was closed.

&I had decided to take a video of this movement at Grantham station and if I could I would take some video of the locomotives being put in place ready for the show, which I did.

The video starts with some of the every day trains, while I waited for the class 56 and Mallard and the Deltic to be fitted in between the normal every day trains. Were the event is to be staged was a waste land with lots of buddleia bushes and had beed cleaned up and concrete and some railway track put down ready for this event.

The DCR on the class 56 stands for Devon and Cornwall Railways which are a subsidiary of British American Railway Services the owners of Hanson Traction

The video and photos in the yard was taken though the anti vandal fencing and into the sun from the car park as the event was still being built.

The Video below is of A4 Mallard which was not in steam that had come from the York NRM on the Wednesday for the "story of Speed" event to be held on the Saturday and Sunday the 7th and 8th of September in 2013 at Grantham Station. The Video starts with some of the trains that go though Grantham station

Grantham station is on the East Coast Main Line (ECML) from Kings Cross to the north and Scotland. Peterborough station is to the south and Newark station is to the North. Notingham to the west and Sleaford to the east.

East Coast ran the ECML passenger trains from London to Leeds and Scotland. Some trains stop but many of speed though.

East Midland Trains also use the station with Norwich to Liverpool trains. Notingham to Grantham trains and Notingham to Skegness and Skegness  to Notingham  trains call at Grantham and then reverse back out of the station.

Trains from Skegness  Sleaford to Nottingham which call at Grantham now go under the ECML and A1 be for they use a new cord and turn back at Allington Junction towards Grantham on the Nottingham line. These trains used Barkston Junction be for. This has helped timekeeping, as these trains do not have to wait for a path on the ECML as they now do not use it.

These trains come into the bay at the North of the station and then reverse out back to Allington Junction to continue on there journey.
