Spalding No.3 signal box after it was closed in the 1970s
This signal box was at the Boston end of Spalding station at the level crossing on the Pinchbeck Road.
This road was the main road to Boston be for the Spalding bypass road was opened. There was a short part of the railway line left to Spalding Beet factory after the line to Boston was closed. But when the Beet factory closed the railway line was removed. I am not sure if the box controled the level crossing gates while the line just to the beet factory only was open.
This signal box was called Spalding no6. When Spalding signal boxes numbers 4 and 5 were closed in 1921, it was then renamed as Spalding no3.
This signal box was opened in 1882 and closed in 1970.
