'Sleaford South signal box'
Sleaford South signal box
This signal box replaced the original box here that was built in 1882. This box dates to 1957. This box was closed in 2014, when the Sleaford avoiding line reopened and then this part of the line came under the control of the Lincoln signal center.
Sleaford South signal box from across a lake ( pond ) in November 2004 on the GN&GEJR From Peterborough To Lincoln. It controled the southern junction to the Sleaford avoiding line. It was a little difficult to get near as there is a lake one side and bushes and trees have now grown up around it. It like many boxes today had new PVC windows.
Signal boxes between Peterborough and Lincoln
This signal box was on the railway line from
Peterborough to
Spalding Sleaford and
Lincoln and
Doncaster on the Great Nothern loop as it is called today. Much work has gone into upgrading this line. This has meant that nearly all the old signal boxes and signals and hand worked crossing gates have all gone, replaced by barriers. These are controled by a new signal center at Lincoln, which is to be replaced, when the York signal Center goes on line by the one at York.
