Westwood Yard is the the main freight yard at Peterborough. Most of its freight now is going some were from somewere else. The freight stop at Peterborough for meal breaks and crew changes and for timetable resons (keeping freight out the way of at peak times)
In the 1970's and early 1980's there was still some mixed freight and parcels to be sorted at Westwood Yard. Westwood Yard even in the late 1970s still had a small hump to sort out wagons.
There were about 112 sidings for about 6000 wagons with over 26000 wagons a week be for the 2nd World War to be sorted in the goods yards around Peterborough. Coal in long block trains for London and wagons loads for all the small stations.
Only a small part of this once very large yard remained into the late 1970's.
There is even more track gone today with some stock stored out of use for years.
