Platform 2 at Peterborough is the main up platform for the London main line trains. In LNER and British Railway days there was no fast though lines and nearly all up trains used this platform. it had a 20mph dog leg at the end of the platform which has now been straightened out. Freight had to wait for a space between passenger trains,  nearly all up had to to all use platform 2. 9Fs on long coal trains would come though the station.

The main ticket office and shop and Buffet are on all platform 2. In the old GNR station there was a parcel office as well.

National Xpress East Coast 91111 at Peterborough in new NXEC colours June 2008

When from December 2007 National Express took over the East Coast rail service from GNER they needed a class 91 painted in their new colours for the Press events on there first day in charge.

Class 91111 was picked and painted as above. At the date of this photo (June 2008) no other 91s had yet been painted National Express did the HSTs first.

This class 91 was at its normal place at the rear of a London train. The rest of the train  has not been repainted and had only had the red stripe covered with white tape (Vinyl) and the GNER logos removed.

I am pleased I took some photos of National Express East Coast (NXEC) while I could. This ECML railway franchise did not last for long!

National Express took over the East Coast rail services from GNER from December 2007.

I am pleased I took some photos of National Express East Coast (NXEC) while I could. This ECML railway franchise did not last for long! By the end of 2009 East Coast was running the trains.

On the 14th November 2009 East Coast became the new operating operating company and took over the running of the ECML. National Express, had decided it was cheaper to walk away be for the end of this franchise.
