Peterborough railway station with a GNER train to London coming into platform 2

GNER train to London coming into platform 2 at Peterborough in 2004

Platform 2 at Peterborough is the main up platform for the London main line trains. In LNER and British Railway days there was no fast though lines and nearly all up trains used this platform. it had a 20mph dog leg at the end of the platform which has now been straightened out. Up freight trains had to wait for a space between passenger trains,  nearly all up had to to all use platform 2. 9Fs on long coal trains would come though the station.

The main ticket office and shop and Buffet are on all platform 2. In the old GNR station there was a parcel office as well

GNER 3311 is in platform two with a WAGN EMU 365519 in platform 3

In 2004 GNER 3311 is in platform two with a train to London. A  WAGN EMU 365519 is in platform 3.

GNER 3311 was one of the 377/2 trainsets which were on lease from Eurostar but had not been repainted in GNER colours. These Eurostar 373/2 trainsets were used on the White Rose service between Kings Cross and Leeds.

The Peterborough Spalding Sleaford to Lincoln service in platform 2 at Peterborough with a Central Trains  class 153364 in 2005

The Peterborough to Spalding Sleaford and Lincoln service was run by Central Trains in 2005. These trains use platform 3a or 2. The train normally stops at the north end of platform 3 (3a), so that a London EMU can also use that platform as well. If there was time between London trains it will use platform 2 near the booking office which saves the passengers a walk over the foot bridge as lot of them will be going on to London.

East Midlands Trains class 156413

East Midlands Trains class 156413 in platform 2 in July 2009.

The Peterborough to Spalding  and Sleaford to Lincoln service is now (2018) run by East Midlands Trains. This service uses the up slow in Peterborough on the ECML in both directions, as the signalling has been upgraded and is now two way all the way to Werrington junction were it leaves the ECML and heads for Spalding on the "GNR Loop"

East Midlands Trains class 156413 East Midlands Trains class 156413 East Midlands Trains class 156413 East Midlands Trains franchise, is what was the eastern side of the old Central Trains franchise. East Midlands Trains (EMT) also runs the old Midland Mainline franchise,  as one franchise. It took over this franchise from Central Trains on the 11th November 2007. East Midlands Trains parent company is the Stagecoach Group.

For a start just the Central Trains logos were removed and the units ran in there old colours with no EMT logo. Some units got the EMT logo but no repaint. class 156413 has been repainted in the East Midlands Trains colours. East Midlands Trains have now repainted most of the units, but this can only be done one or two at a time, as most of units are required each day to run the services.
