Just the name has been changed on this class 91, from National Express East Coast to East Coast.

East Coast is the name of the new train operating operating company that took over the running of the ECML train services run by National Express East Coast on 14th November 2009. This was when National Express which had run National Express East Coast as a subsidiary company, decided it was cheaper to walk away from this franchise.

East Coast is the trading name of East Coast Main Line Company Ltd which is a subsidiary of Directly Operated Railways Limited. This was was formed by the Department for Transport.

It re-tendered the franchise in 2014 but with GNER and NXEC both not making any money with ECML trains will any one else want it

These trains were set to carry the Virgin name around March 2015 till only 2018 when they also walked away (Virgin gave a bit more warning and helped to make it work better) and the goverment has taken over again with LNER

National Express East Anglia was also a subsidiary company of National Express. The Department for Transport said, it would not renew this franchise when it ran out. This franchise is now called Greater Anglia

Note the old Royal Mail sorting depot on the left which has now been pulled down and was made into a car park for a bit but is now the site of a supermarket. The Post Office foot bridge was connected to this and is now used for people with pushchairs and large wheeled cases and people with cycles who can push them up and down the ramps to get over the bridge. This is still in use even with the new lifts put in in 2014.

Platform three in British Railways days was the main down platform and had buildings with waiting rooms and buffets ect. Platform 6 was at the rear and there were northern bays used by the M&GN.

When the station was altered and the fast lines put in around 1968 platform 6 and its buildings together with the northern bays that M&GNJR trains had used were removed.

There was just a small waiting room or is it a shelter on platform 3 at this time. Passengers had to use the footbridge to get to and from platform 3. The platform is used by both up and down trains. All the Great Northern outer suburban trains that come to Peterborough terminate at Peterborough

The Class 180 Adelantes were built by Alistom in 2001 and 2002

It is rare to see a class 180 in Peterborough station. Both First Hull Trains and Grand Central do stop there trains in Peterborough station. They may like to! This train had been terminated here, as trains were not running south of Peterborough, because of trouble near Huntingdon.

Parking this class 180 here in platform 3 took up valuable platform space. East Coast were also stopping there south bound trains at Peterborough and then returning north. It was like musical chairs with lots of platform alterations. The extra platforms that are now open at Peterborough station on days like this one will come in very handy.

Note the new car park (top left) on the site of the old Post Office storting depot. This was not yet in use, which is why there are no cars in it. This car park is now part of a supermarket.

The East Coast class 91101 is the the new siver grey colours but the rest of the train were still in the old colours.
